Where do we go wrong?

From the earliest of recorded history there have always been problems with people getting in trouble and doing the wrong things. Be it our children or people that are old enough to know better.

Where do we go wrong? Is it one action that changes our lives or lots of little ones that everyone says is no big deal because they are so trivial?

Is it the fault of parents that allow kids to do things they should not or the kids that are doing it?

How can a child learn right from wrong when the adults they see do not seem to know the difference themselves?

I keep wondering where it is we go wrong?

When we say it is not our problem and do nothing when a child is doing something he or she should not be are we as much to blame?

Many years before Christ was born, Solomon placed at the very front of his book of wisdom some interesting words for all but especially the young and parents. For with his wisdom he realized that to truly change the world we must not only change ourselves but we must teach, both by our word and our actions, our children to be better people than ourselves and our ancestors.

That we must take responsibility for our own actions and realize that the choices we make have consequences both good and bad. But more importantly we must realize that the choices we make, while perhaps seemly insignificant often have long lasting and perhaps life changing effects on the ones around us. Especially our children.

So where did we go wrong? If you want someone to blame for the problems of the world today the gangs, the drugs, and everything else. The original person's body that started it all has long turned to dust. For even Solomon wrote a warning to the young among us about gangs and those that will cause them to do harm to themselves and others.

...

My child, bad men may tempt you and say, 'Come with us; let us lie in wait for someone's blood; Let us waylay an innocent person that has done us no harm. Like Sheol we shall swallow them alive; the blameless, they shall be like the ones that are thrown down into the abyss. We shall take rich treasure of every sort and fill our homes with their wealth; throw in your lot with us, and we shall have a common purse.'

...

My child, do not go along with them, keep clear of their ways. For their way is short lived and leads only to death.

So who is to blame for today's problems? I wonder what things might have changed with us if parents and others had taken a little more time to listen and talk with us when we were growing up? Taken the time to teach us a better way, through words but mostly through example. I wonder what changes we will make on the world in 20 years by what the pre-school children see and hear us do today?
