Faith Without Proof

There are those who say that they cannot have faith in anything that they cannot see. Yet every day most of us do things that require us to have faith in things that we have not seen, tested, or proven.

For instance each time you walk up a set of stairs, how do you know that they will hold your weight? How do you know that the last person than walked up the steps did not create a structural fracture in one of the steps? You can say that the steps were designed to hold weights far greater than anything anyone would carry up them. But without testing it yourself, how do you know?

Along the same lines, when you get in an elevator, how do you know it will hold you? How do you know the cable is good? How do you know the emergency brakes will work?

When you get in your car, how do you know it will start or that you will make it to your destination?

How do you know for sure that any city that you have not been to really exists? As Pictures can be forged and people claiming to have been in the cities could be lying.

We have faith in so many simple things that happen in our lives each day, and take them for granted with out any real proof other than someone saying it is true. Which is why it amazes me that so many people have trouble even accepting the "possibility" that there "might" be a Creator. And usually saying that they do not believe because there is no proof that a creator can exist.

Before 1938, if you had said Coelacanths were alive and well. You would have been told you were out of your mind ... "For everyone knows the fish has been extinct for about 70 million years."

Then in 1938 a living Coelacanth was caught in the Indian Ocean off the coast of South Africa. A long search for their home ended in 1952 when they were found near Comoros Archipelago (north-west of Madagascar).

If you said that the fish lives in other locations around the world, people would have said, "You are wrong, out of your mind, it is impossible, this is the only place on the planet that they are found. For we have already looked everywhere for them. Surely they would have been found by now if there were any other colonies of this fish anywhere on the planet.".

For 46 years we were told that there was only one colony of these fish on the planet. When in 1998, another colony of this extinct fish was found off the coast of Indonesia.

So there are two colonies. There can not be any more. It is impossible. A few people were sure that there could not be another colony. Until 2000 when, gasp, a third colony was found off the coast of South Africa.

Is there a fourth colony of Coelacanths somewhere on the planet? Perhaps rather than always trying to answer with a definite Yes or No, we should be more willing to say, "Maybe".

Thus, I pose this question to all those that say that there is no Creator because there is no proof. Rather than there being no tangible proof of a Creator, could it be that perhaps we just haven't looked in the right place or used the correct tools?
